Birmingham 3 in. x 12 in. Glazed Ceramic Subway Tile

This is truly my favorite. It is universally appealing. It is a subway tile, but it is larger than the traditional 3×6. This tile is 3×12, so gives a more elegant look to the room.
The other thing I love about this tile is that the face is not perfectly flat. It is polished, but the actual tile has a more handmade look to it. What this will do in your room is reflect light in such a gorgeous way and instead of looking institutional, as standard subway tile can, it looks more luxurious and custom.
This is virtually identical to what we chose for our kitchen. We updated our kitchen that has honey oak cabinets, keeping the wood and adding a vanilla 3×12 subway tile.

Catalina 3×12 Ceramic Tile

This tile is the same size as the Birmingham, but it has a little more of a handmade look to it. The Catalina has a little more dimension to it. If you’d like a little more detail to your tile, but still love subway tile, this is a good option for you.

Alexandria 5.5 in. x 6 in. Porcelain Floor and Wall Tile

The Alexandria tile is a perfect choice if you are looking for something other than a subway tile.
It is a nice sized tile, I always suggest going larger with your tile choice for a more custom and elegant look and this fits the bill perfectly.
It has some nice, handmade looking detailing to it, which I love.
The tiles have some tonality to them, so this is a great option if you thought you wanted some type of pattern or multiple colors of tile. You will get some added interest to your backsplash with the shading of the tiles. (They do show a backsplash using several different colors of the tiles, but I am not suggesting to do that. Rather the individual tiles of the same color will give you some color variations themselves.)

Beta 2.44 in. x 5 in. Fish Scale Matte Ceramic Wall Tile

This Fish Scale tile is another great option is you are looking for something other than a subway tile.
The round shape can be an interesting visual to add to a room with a lot of hard lines from counters, cabinets, etc.
I would consider this choice a bit more of a trendy selection, so take that into account. It still has classic appeal when choosing a neutral color, so I think it could hold the test of time well in the style department.
This tile can add an element of fun & a little whimsy to your room.
