How good does that look?? So good, right!! You want to dive right in, don't you!! If you've got a sweet tooth...here is a great little recipe to have in your toolbox to satisfy that craving, but still get some great nutrients, too! This recipe has some great things in it to nourish your gut health. If you aren't on the gut health bandwagon yet....it's one you really want to hop on. I first became interested in learning more about gut health when I was pregnant with my first child a few years ago. I enjoy reading articles on the topic and learning all about the fascinating microbiome. I am in no way, shape, or fashion any type of expert...I wouldn't even call myself a novice....but I am just someone who really believes whatever little time you are willing to invest into the topic of learning more about our gut health, will come back to you tenfold in benefits to yourself and for your family. I just hope I can reach some people who have not heard much about this topic and peak their interest to learn just a little bit more. My family is in no way on a strict diet, I do not want to misrepresent myself. We do eat some junk food and treats. We don't eat all organic, we are not vegetarians, we eat dairy, etc. So, we are 'normal' American diet eaters, I would say...but there are some things I've tried to add in to our diet to benefit our microbiomes. One thing I have been doing for a couple years is making FERMENTED SAUERKRAUT. You can click my link there for my easy how-to article for beginners. We eat fermented sauerkraut regularly, often a small serving with our lunches. Also, my kids eat yogurt, but they eat plain yogurt. Have you ever looked at the sugar content of yogurts...seriously, pretty much like giving them a candy bar. We also try to incorporate a lot of vegetables in our diet. We garden and think that is a wonderful way to teach our kids about food. I also have a recipe for making BONE BROTH FOR BEGINNERS- Slow Cooker that you may want to try, as well. In my interest over the last few years to learn more about gut health, I was lucky enough to stumble upon Dr. B, The Gut Health MD on Instagram. He is a practicing gastroenterologist who shares researched based information related to gut health for the masses. He has a website, but if you go to his Dr. B's Instagram LinkTree and click on his linktree, you will find some great links. I strongly suggest you listen to at least one of the podcasts he has done. One of them is linked right there for you on his Instagram. They are phenomenal!!! He also has a FREE Gut Health course you can register for, the link is on his Instagram. One of the keys he shares is the most powerful thing you can do for your gut health is to increase the diversity of the plant material you consume. This is one of the little gems I've snagged from his Instagram. I don't really have a sweet tooth for candy....but cookies, chocolate, and ice cream are my weaknesses. So, I finally tried his recipe and I wanted to share it, so more of you can also give it a try. Maybe this can help me kick my ice cream at night habit. I had been meaning to try this recipe for awhile, and finally remembered to try it today. I went with what I had on hand, so I substituted peanut butter for the cashew butter and used regular semi-sweet chocolate chips. I am a dark chocolate lover and have a ton of 90% cacao chocolate bars on hand, but didn't have any nibs to use for this recipe. Dr. B The Gut Health M.D's Chickpea Cookie Dough Recipe: 1 can of chickpeas, rinsed 1/4 cup of cashew butter 2 1/2 tbsp of maple syrup 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla Add all ingredients to a food processor or high-power blender. Blend until smooth, and then add dark chocolate chunks or cacao nibs.
